Design of an urban district in Venice

Location: Murano, Venice
Status: Design

On Murano, one of Venice’s neighboring islands, a decommissioned industrial area along the waterfront was analyzed, and a concept for its reuse and further development was created.
Influenced by the idea of Venice as a flowing interior space, not only was an urban design solution developed, but also a floor plan organization in which elements of the Venetian path system are reflected: corridors are structured reminiscent of Venetian calli (narrow streets), and thresholds evoke sotoportegi (covered passageways). Special attention is given to the boundaries and transitions between land, water, and buildings—not merely as an aesthetic principle, but as a spatial perception, inspired by the Italian narrative of dolce far niente, the sweet art of doing nothing.
This is realized as an expression of a lifestyle in which architecture transcends mere functionality.

Pavilion for the IAA MOBILITY 2023

realized project

Project Type: Temporary Pavilion
Use: exhibition stand for a gastronomy business
Location: Munich Trade Fair Grounds, Hall A1
Exhibition Period: September 5–10, 2023
Client: Cocktail X GmbH
Status: Completed

As part of the 2023 Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA MOBILITY 2023), a pavilion for gastronomic use was designed to stand out architecturally from the typical, generic fair constructions.
The choice fell on a scaffold-frame structure. Covering 200m² with a height of 4m, the construction encompasses a central cooking area, a seating zone, storage, and a counter for takeaway service. Fabric banners stretched between the scaffold frames and custom-designed wooden furniture integrated into the scaffold grid serve as both exterior and interior partitions.
Sanitary and electrical systems are routed not only through the trade fair floor but also within the wooden furniture. The scaffold was painted gray, creating a clean yet rustic character. Vertically running scaffold poles serve as suspension points for lighting, screens, and speakers.
The pavilion was located in Hall A1 at IAA MOBILITY 2023 and was on display from September 5 to 10, 2023.
